Premature ejaculation

A:
Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common male sexual dysfunction, affecting one in five men in the United States. The underlying causes can be physical, psychological, genetic, and hormonal. For example, stress, depression, poor physical health or diet, lack of exercise, certain medications, and decreased testosterone levels might all be affecting your longevity during sex. So before you begin to treat your condition, you may first want to explore its possible causes. Your doctor can help you examine these possibilities and test your hormone levels.
Luckily, there are many viable treatments for premature ejaculation, including behavioral and medical remedies. A tried-and-true behavioral remedy is the stop-and-start method. This is when a man becomes aroused almost to the point of ejaculation, then stops himself and calms down, then becomes aroused almost to the point of ejaculation, then calms down, and so on. Over time, this stop-and-start technique can help a man improve the length of his performance. You can also try this technique during masturbation; in addition, there are sex toys a man can use to "train" himself to last longer.
Over-the-counter products may also help. You can try long-lasting condoms, which have numbing agents to make sex feel less intense, or prolonging lubricants, which you rub on your erect penis to keep it hard. Prescription meds such as antidepressants can also be used to help a man last longer, and new PE drugs are being tested every day. However, don't expect a magic pill to solve all your sex woes — sex isn't meant to be perfect or standardized. Embrace new techniquesand positions, and give your partner plenty of foreplay. If you follow this route, she won't care whether you last one minute or one hour!
